These are the top ten billionaires in India, according to IIFL Wealth Hurun Rich List 2020

There are about 828 people in India who have more than ₹1,000 crore wealth - including 162 new entrants who turned richer during the pandemic. Together they hold a whopping $823 billion - equivalent to a third of India’s GDP.

The richest person in India is — Mukesh Ambani, who earned ₹90 crore every 60 minutes since India went into lockdown in March.

2020 has been a tough year. The coronavirus-led lockdown forced many businesses to shut down and erased billions of dollars from the market. However, the pandemic did not stop the super-rich from adding to their wealth.

Currently, India is the third billionaire generating ‘factory’ in the world after the US and China, according to the IIFL Wealth Hurun rich list 2020.

And the richest person in India is none other than — Mukesh Ambani, who earned ₹90 crore every60 minutes since India locked itself down back in March. He is worth ₹6,58,400 crore.

Ambani is followed by the Hinduja Brothers, who also happen to be the wealthiest people in all ofthe UK. Tech billionaire Shiv Nadar ranks third on the list with net worth of ₹1,41,700 crore.

In India, according to Hurun Rich List 2020, despite the market meltdown and rupee depreciation, wealth of rich listers’ has grown twice as fast as the capitalisation growth of all the companies listed in the BSE.

"28% of the upswing in wealth on the list has been bestowed by Mukesh Ambani, bespeaking Ambani's meteoric success post diversifying from oil to telecom and retail. A further 21% of the additional wealth has been generated by pharma, mainly on the back of the rise in healthcare spends and a realigned priority towards personal healthcare stimulated by the Covid-19,” IIFL Wealth Hurun Rich List said.

It is worthy to note that not a single woman entrepreneur is in the list of top 10 richest people in India.
